Can you believe it?

Posted by LP - I am writing this while resting on my bed at our lodging in Santiago…..we did it, we walked 500 miles!…..and we have our certificates to prove it - I am very proud of us both and so happy that I can rest my poor feet for a while - it feels a bit surreal, my mind has not yet caught up with the news that we reached our goal - here are photos from our 20 kilometer walk this morning

I bought a Camino trinket from this entrepreneur, he set up his sales table in the wooded area, before we reached the outskirts of Santiago 
We had our breakfast (tea, orange juice and a banana) at this cafe, aptly named 15 Kilometer (because it was at the 15 km marker)
VQT waiting in the queue at the Pilgrims office to receive the certificate - she is showing proof (the stamped Pilgrim’s Passport) that we walked from St Jean Pied du Port (in fact we received 2 certificates each, one that we completed the pilgrimage and the other to say we walked 790 kilometers)
Another of the Heroes of the Camino mural series - I don’t know who the heroes are, but I am very grateful for all the volunteers who support El Camino

    You did it! I had no doubt the two of you would do it. Now your morning hikes in Atlanta will seem so short in comparison to your daily Camino hikes. Congratulations!

 Map showing the Camino routes.   We will be walking part of Norte starting just to the left of Santander (route at top shown in red).  Just under the word Norte we will take the Primitivo route (shown as a light purple color) into Santiago de Compostela.  Our calculations show we will walk approximately 300 miles.   Today (Friday) we fly to Madrid arriving Saturday morning.  From Madrid we take a train for approximately 4 hours to Santander.  From there we’ll get a taxi to Santillana Del Mar where we will stay overnight.  On Sunday we start our walk    “We should all be grateful for the beauty of this world, but more, we should take the trouble to get off the bus of life and put the soles of our feet to the soul of the world and see those sacred sites with our own eyes”. Irish Poet.     Travel safely, travel soulfully, travel gratefully… Buen Camino.

Wanderlust

 Posted by LP VQT sitting at cafe in Madrid airport under a sign that says “Wanderlust (n) a strong desire or urge to travel and explore the world” As we walk out of the city, we see the bright blue sky above the bell tower of the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela  Liz (met last year on Portugues Camino), LP, VQT and Michelle (met this year on the Primitivo Camino) outside the restaurant we ate lunch together yesterday/Thursday  LP, VQT, Michelle and Liz enjoying dinner at The Green Room (a veggie restaurant!) on Wednesday evening  We’ve walked, we’ve celebrated…..we are ready to be home :) HUGE and HEARTFELT thanks to everyone who supported us to have this wonderful adventure - I recognize it is a privilege to spend a month walking and exploring (also finding our way, negotiating various challenges, looking for the next place to rest, eat, sleep and do laundry, etc.!) - special appreciation to GJA (previously identified as the most supportive spouse in the world), family and friends
