It’s all good until it isn’t and then it’s good again.

Camino shell.

After our 1.5 hour cafe break we were so proud of ourselves for making it up and over the long uphill climb.  Consulted our booking app to our accommodation and it showed we were closer than we thought.   Our Buen Camino app showed a much longer walk.  The booking app does not know we are on the Camino and just shows the most direct route to our accommodation.   The 2  app directions don’t always match up.

As we neared our destination we switched to the booking app map which took us off the Camino route and up and down and all around until we lost faith in the directions   Called the hotel for help.   Estella said she’d come get us in her car and to send her a pin through WhatsApp of where we were.   After watching YouTube videos we finally figured out how to do that.   Meanwhile a young man came out onto the road because he was concerned about us.  He spoke no English and we communicated through google translate and decided to start walking based on his help and hope Estella would find us.   Rounding a corner another man - who also didn’t speak English - stopped us and wanted us to get into his car.  Strange because he did communicate the name of our hotel.  Within moments there was Estella and we learned this man had been drinking at the hotel bar (he wasn’t drunk) and overheard there were 2 lost Camino women.   We were never in any danger.

In all of our Camino journeys we have never felt that we were in any danger.

The drive to the hotel was further than expected so we were very thankful for the ride.   Estella assured us they’d get us back to the Camino in the morning.

There’s a restaurant attached to the hotel that opens at 9 pm.  Estella told us her mom would cook us eggs and make us a salad - we’ll be there.  Bon Appetit!

  4. Elizabeth David’s favorite meal is an omelette and a glass of wine - simple and elegant. Stay vigilant ladies! Don’t get in stranger’s cars!

  6. As I look at the photos, I felt relief for the path marker. Then I read the “rest of the story”. How aggravating it must be to have walked all day then have difficulty finding your hotel. Perseverance!!
