A Delicious Vegetarian Meal



Posted by LP - Spain in general and El Camino in particular are not noted for their vegetarian food so we were thrilled to find a very veggie friendly cafe in Estella - in fact not long after our check in fiasco (see Tired and Frustrated blog) we found this little restaurant very near our hotel - photo one is the friendly cafe owner standing in front of the menu board and photo two is the outside of the cafe with lights twinkling in the dusk - we consumed the food with great enthusiasm (some might say we inhaled the food) - we definitely have hearty hiking appetites these days

Departure Day

 Map showing the Camino routes.   We will be walking part of Norte starting just to the left of Santander (route at top shown in red).  Just under the word Norte we will take the Primitivo route (shown as a light purple color) into Santiago de Compostela.  Our calculations show we will walk approximately 300 miles.   Today (Friday) we fly to Madrid arriving Saturday morning.  From Madrid we take a train for approximately 4 hours to Santander.  From there we’ll get a taxi to Santillana Del Mar where we will stay overnight.  On Sunday we start our walk    “We should all be grateful for the beauty of this world, but more, we should take the trouble to get off the bus of life and put the soles of our feet to the soul of the world and see those sacred sites with our own eyes”. Irish Poet.     Travel safely, travel soulfully, travel gratefully… Buen Camino.

Wanderlust

 Posted by LP VQT sitting at cafe in Madrid airport under a sign that says “Wanderlust (n) a strong desire or urge to travel and explore the world” As we walk out of the city, we see the bright blue sky above the bell tower of the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela  Liz (met last year on Portugues Camino), LP, VQT and Michelle (met this year on the Primitivo Camino) outside the restaurant we ate lunch together yesterday/Thursday  LP, VQT, Michelle and Liz enjoying dinner at The Green Room (a veggie restaurant!) on Wednesday evening  We’ve walked, we’ve celebrated…..we are ready to be home :) HUGE and HEARTFELT thanks to everyone who supported us to have this wonderful adventure - I recognize it is a privilege to spend a month walking and exploring (also finding our way, negotiating various challenges, looking for the next place to rest, eat, sleep and do laundry, etc.!) - special appreciation to GJA (previously identified as the most supportive spouse in the world), family and friends
