Gregorian service & The Iron Cross

 Posted by VQT

Last night we attended a Pilgrim’s mass in the village church.  There were 8 monks who chanted (Gregorian) the service.   Very old building was erected by the Knights Templar in the 12th century.

Inside of the church.  It was filled last night with Camino people

After the service we had one of our best meals at our bed & breakfast: pumpkin soup, Garam masala, homemade bread and a glass of vino tinto   Excellent

Our breakfast   Yogurt, fruit & granola   Bread with tomato, cheese, arugula and avocado   We rarely get a meal like this.

Cruz de Ferro | Camino Frances

The Cruz de Ferro, or Iron Cross, is a cross on the Camino de Santiago, located between the towns of Foncebadón and Manjarín, on the Camino Frances.

It consists of a wooden pole about five feet high surmounted by an iron cross, a replica of the original preserved in the Museo de Los Caminos in Astorga.

At its base, a mound has been forming over the years.

Traditional Pilgrim's Prayer at the Cruz de Ferro

"Lord, may this stone, a symbol of my efforts on the pilgrimage that I lay at the foot of the cross, weigh the balance in favor of my good deeds some day when the deeds of my life are judged. Let it be so."
