The Camino always surprises

 Posted by VQT

Some surprises are good and some are not so good.  We had a long uphill climb today.  Parts were stunningly beautiful.  It was very tiring after yesterday’s long day.

VQT and LP at about the halfway point.

A lone horse coming down the road.  People pay 30 euros to ride horses to the top.

LP watching the man lead 4 horses down.  The lone horse coming behind in prior photo looked like its hoofs hurt.  We sympathize with the horse.

Another photo of the horses heading down.

View - very Sound of Music looking.

Another Mountain View.

This was our climb today.

And we started in Trabadelo so we’d walked 9 km (almost 6 miles before we started the climb).

3 years ago we arrived in Linares in the rain and cold and learned we’d booked a reservation in a town with the same or similar name but 600 miles away.  We ended up taking a taxi to stay at one of the nicest places we’ve ever stayed at on any Camino.  The next morning we took the taxi back to Linares to continue our walk.  This year we booked a private room with bath in Linares and arrived to find it’s a non staffed hotel and there’s no hot water for showers and no heat.  We’ve decided this town is cursed for us.

  1. It is cursed!!! no hot water or heat??? That's awful! That is a steep climb - you really need the hot shower. Those horses know the way - up and back - poor things. They get tired of being a pack horse I bet. Hope you found a good bar and restaurant there,

  2. Sorry about those awful conditions… Hope you both will be able to get some rest after those steep hills. I empathize with the horses as well. best, ROBBIE💚
