Day 7 - Sunday

 Posted by VQT

It was a HOT night in Najera.  91 degrees when we headed to bed - no air conditioning.  LP went to lobby and asked for a fan.  She and the very accommodating receptionist went through 22 vacant hotel rooms looking for an available fan - no luck.  Windows open which was fine until someone emptied trash into the dumpster outside our window (3 floors down) at 1:45 am.  Temperature cooled down rapidly so it was not too bad.

Over the past 6 days we have walked 77 miles.  Today we add another 14 to 15 miles to that total.

Headed to Santo Domingo de la Calzada.  LP will post about the chickens in the cathedral later.

Sign post.  Santiago a mere 571 km away.

Wine grapes.

Elaborate entrance to a cemetery.

Public (Camino) water fountain.  We fill our water bottles from these fountains.

  1. Ugh, the heat and the dumpster. Hope you were able to get back to sleep!

  2. Trash dump in the wee hours just adds to the allure of hiking in a foreign country and enjoying (suffering?) the local color and/bad habits!! So glad it cooled off.
