The Road Not Found

 Posted by VQT

Early this morning we studied our guide book and looked at Camino Ninja app and set off .  Today’s walk offered several alternative routes and we chose the coastal route.  At least that was our plan.

First we met N from Liverpool who pulled out his phone and showed us the route on his app.  N has foot problems and was planning to walk the highway route and not the coastal route.

LP and VQT set off with new information.

Trail in the woods.

LP on the trail in the woods.

Scenic view while on the trail in the woods.

Baby snake on trail in the woods.

Very friendly horse on trail in the woods.

The things missing from the trail in the woods were Camino signs and other pilgrims.  But, that didn’t deter us we forged onward.  When we finally popped out of the trail in the woods we had no clue where we were.  Decided to go left - it was a 50/50.

We ended up a long way away from where we should have been.  The lovely owner of this cafe opened up for us and shared a video of her singing New York New York (never know what you’ll experience on the Camino).  And she called a taxi for us.

VQT and our taxi driver.  He took us on the road that the trail in the woods ended at and onto where we should have been and left us at the coastal Camino route.

Within a very short time we met 3 Camino pilgrims all from Spain and headed off down the route with them.  And guess what?  Even with 3 Spanish pilgrims and their 2 apps we were all lost again.

I’m going to let LP finish the story of today.  We ended up walking 43,000 steps.

  1. So much for a less strenuous walking day! Also, glad that the extremely venomous European Viper on the trail in the woods decided to patiently allow you to take its photo rather than the alternative!

  3. Always fun to wander off the path. You are not lost if you have friends with you. Ev.
