Oviedo: the Origin of the Camino

Posted by LP - although we have already been walking for 10 days, technically, only now have we reached “The Origin of the Camino”…..and it is a rest day :)

Oviedo, Origin of the Camino wall painting in Cathedral square
Tea for breakfast….in a tea pot (at a modern cafe just off the cathedral square)
We strolled around and enjoyed the many statues in the city center - this one of a man on bench is of D. Luis Pasade (who was a mayor apparently) by Manolo Linares
Mother and child (modern interpretation) statue - “La Maternidad” by Fernando Botero
Man with luggage statue - called “The Return of Williams  B Arrensberg” by Eduardo Uralio (very mysterious!)

Woman sitting on ground statue - Mujer Sentada by Manolo Hague
Gandhi quote outside university building (“There is no way to peace, peace is the way”)
We did laundry (obviously!) - the place is called Happy Laundry and is decorated in a marvelous shade of green 💚
VQT working on the logistics of travel while we wait for laundry
Outside the laundry was a well used by pilgrims hundreds of years ago (perhaps to do their laundry?!?)
VQT walking through arch to old city of Oviedo
Green-ish door in old city
We went to modern cafe “Coffee Stories” for a delicious breakfast (tea, fresh orange juice and matcha croissant)….
… and returned for lunch, also delicious (tomatoes, avocado and cheese on toast)….
….and beer (with entrance to cathedral in the background)
