A glorious day on the Camino

Posted by LP - yesterday (Saturday) was a travel day - we successfully negotiated several forms of transportation (shuttle bus, local train, long distance train) and were feeling rather pleased with ourselves as we settled into our seats for the 4 hours from Madrid to Santander (with our drinks and snacks) - then the train stopped and everyone was getting off (we thought we were going to have more room for ourselves), but clearly we had not understood the tannoy message….there was a problem on the rails and the rest of the way would be by (cramped and rather uncomfortable) buses - it was raining and the views from the bus were uninspiring - we were happy to make it to our destination - all this made today (Sunday) all the more delightful… the sun shone, the sky was blue, the sights interesting and the distance short (= a fantastic combination), we had a glorious day one on the Camino - here are photos from today (in no particular order)

LP’s and VQT’s feet next to a Camino marker in the road, the first one we came across when leaving hotel this morning
VQT sitting outside a cafe enjoying our breakfast (tea, fresh orange juice and croissant) - our first break was less than 1/2 mile from our start!
We walked past many lovely gardens and native plants - this is a bright and beautiful bourganvilla in a pot alongside the Camino
This house is typical of those we pass, lots of colourful plants in pots on porches and terraces
A Camino sign with lush green grass behind it, and beyond that the blue sea and sky
Huge Angel’s Trumpets flowers in garden alongside the Camino
One disappointment was the lack of green doors! - this house with dull green windows and balconies was the only green I saw
VQT raising her beer glass at our late lunch (we had happily already reached our goal for the day) - the outdoor cafe overlooked the beach where locals were enjoying family time

We feel fortunate to be walking the Camino again and even more fortunate that it had been such a great start 💚

  1. Congratulations on a glorious start of your journey! May each day bring it's own kind of joy...and green doors and lots of other green stuff!
