Walking meditation

Posted by LP - only a little over 15 miles today - to show you how good we are feeling, we had the energy and enthusiasm to take the alternative route (slightly longer, but by a river and offering more shade and tranquility) and glad we did……so I let my mind wander, and wander it did - recurring topics included:

Michael Rosen’s delightful preschool kid’s book, “We are going on a bear hunt, we going to catch a big one, it’s a beautiful day, we’re not scared”

The naughty songs by Tom Lehrer, with “National Brotherhood Week” grabbing lots of attention, which seems a bit of an antithesis while on a hike many consider to be a pilgrimage

Plus I found myself singing, “Oh I do like to be beside the seaside,” (Edwardian Music Hall), at least it gives me a brisk beat for hiking through some of the “slog”

Early morning sunshine on a thistle plant by the trail
Statue of a pilgrim…..this time sitting at a table enjoying some liquid refreshment (we too enjoy “going to the pub for a quick half” after some strenuous pilgrimming!)
We go into many of the small churches we hike past - I like the contrast shown here….a very fancy Madonna with a simple basket of wheat
As we set off this morning, we came upon someone else’s drama……the ambulance helicopter landed in a field next to the ambulance

You just never know what is around the corner as a “Roadside Attraction “ on El Camino…..here is a giant concrete hand grabbing me!

  5. I"m so glad for a more tranquil day by the river despite that one traumatic looking sight. The hand sculpture is so cool! Could also use one to push people forward.
