Dying, purgatory and the kingdom of heaven

Sign wishing us a Buen Camino (as we left Carrion de los Condes this morning)
El Camino Food Truck - lots of entrepreneurship along the Camino
Artwork of painful and damaged feet (at the hotel we are staying this evening in Ledigos)

Posted by LP - Michael, a Canadian pilgrim we met on our first night on El Camino, has his own blog/Facebook page - he is a couple of days ahead of us, in Leon - he told this story……In his book, “To the Field of Stars: A Pilgrim’s Journey to Santiago de Compostela” the American priest Father Kevin Codd creates the analogy that the journey from St Jean Pied de Port (where we began this adventure) to Burgos (where we walked a couple of days ago) is “the process of dying” and the journey across the Meseta to Leon (where we hope to be in a couple of days) is “a walk through Purgatory” and beyond Leon we begin “ to enter the Kingdom of Heaven” - VQT and I see this as an accurate description of our experience so far….the first section was physically very challenging, and the middle section (where we are now) is mentally challenging because of the repetitiveness of the terrain….we can only hope that next week is heavenly :)

  1. There is a jazz album titled “Feets Don’t Fail Me Now”. I wish that for your feet. PN
