Cruz Ferro (LP’s version)

Posted by LP - see VQT’s version for the explanation of Cruz Ferro - I want to add some personal reflections…..we climbed a very steep mountain to get there (very, very steep!), and then after there, we climbed even higher (the highest point on El Camino in fact) - Cruz Ferro is beautiful, lots of people bringing all kinds of love and hope to that location - after reaching the high point, we descended…..it was an extremely steep descent, with lots of loose rocks to make it more exciting - with breaks, we were out in the sun for 9+ hours - we are now very tired and need our rest, but here are a few photos:

LP’s rocks, brought all the way from Budleigh Salterton, Devon, UK, and my dear friend, AMB…..but the rocks carry the hopes and burdens of everyone I know and love
Some wonderful views rewarded our great efforts - here are some cows enjoying mountain life, it felt a bit like we were in The Sound of Music
There are “Civil Protection” staff at Cruz Ferro
This caravan and seating area is where we took one of our breaks
This is mother and daughter, D and F, who agreed with us about what a challenging walk it was today, and they bought us a beer to reward our efforts :)
This marker is just outside the town we are staying in tonight, it says Santiago is 219.3 kilometers away, that = 136 miles (which means we have walked 364 miles!!!)

  1. I thought I heard yodeling! Or maybe just some whoops of joy for having made it to the highest point and back down again...tired but intact. Great mileage. Nearly there!
