Camino Camaraderie
Posted by LP - there are so many things to tell you about each day, it is difficult to know where to begin - yesterday we did not have good access to Wi-Fi (or wee-fee as the locals call it), so here are a few highlights of recent Camino Camaraderie:
This is M from Colorado - he was galant enough to drop his pack and run after us down the road to make sure we knew about the alternative route (today we chose the shortest route, even if it was not the most scenic, so we could save our tired feet for the last 100 miles!) - M is a modern day Templar Knight :)This big dog defended his castle as we walked past on our way through the delightful city of Villafranca del Bierzo
A modern rendition of a traditional pilgrim (with walking pole and gourd)
This is K from The Netherlands - we have met him several times in the last two weeks or so (he is always looking for a place to have a nice cup of coffee)
This afternoon we chatted with N and R from Germany - our paths have crossed before - here we are taking a rest at a bus stop, sharing cookies/biscuits and oranges - N’s aunt had knitted tiny booties for N to share along the Camino and we are lucky recipients
This wire-haired dachshund is so charming, but he was not impressed with hikers…..he has seen hundreds of them
This is C and R from Sweden - we ate pizza and drank beer at tables next to one another - they were sweet enough to point out, that even though they are 1/2 our age (and clearly strong hikers), we were staying at the same places for two nights in a row

This is a new way, at least to us, that the Camino is indicated…the sign resembles the wooden stick in hand carried by traditional pilgrims (personally I love my light weight walking poles)
I'm enjoying all the stories about the lovely co-pilgrims you have met along the way. Also all the storks.
ReplyDeleteVery cool to meet interesting fellow pilgrims and travelers. It enhances the experience.
ReplyDeleteSo fun to follow along in your journey!
